The track got a good three minutes of downpour, but now the sun is out. Once the surface is dry, we can race. We're watching the skies.

You don't get rain on track equipment very often - track riders melt in the rain. But we got taken by surprise with a heavy rainfall, and now we're waiting to see if we can start.

Mike Hall, victor and all-around good guy, taking the top step of the podium. Brandon Krawczyk, third place, younger and better looking than me or Hall, and apparently made of METAL - third place. With a very well-insulated head. And me over there on the left. We had a great time at the match sprints, and I like to think I made Hall work for it - had good max speeds in the sprints, and took him long in both of our head-to-head sprints, which was my only hope of winning, since Mike's max speeds are just higher than mine.
For context on that last point, I hit 62k's in my 200m time trial, and my time was officially 11.99 - though that was hand-timed due to a mechanical error, and I'm doubtful it was that slow. It was probably an 11.8 or so. Mike's 200 was an 11.6. 0.2 seconds may seem like not much - but it's a meaningful difference, and his max speed was probably 64 or 65km/h.
So - in the races against Mike, my only hope was to make him work longer and therefore, perhaps, lose his top speed. No such luck. In both rides I got going with around 2 laps to go, and got something of a gap on Mike from the initial acceleration. But Mike is patient, working into my draft and then coming through the draft and around me on the final stretch. In the first heat, he got me by a few inches. In the second heat, he got me very clearly - and that was that. Best two out of three. In both heats I hit 62km/h, which was my max last night (if it had been warmer, perhaps I'd have been going 63 or 64, but under the conditions it was 62), so I did my best and gave him a run for his money. Ted Schmid got some nice video of the heats, so I'll try to find some links to that -
